Concept of the Program

The MME program is designed to last two years (60 ECTS credits). The in-person phase includes eight modules, each lasting one week, with extensive pre- and post-preparation periods. Each module is worth 4.5 ECTS credits. Additionally, students complete a project (9 ECTS) during the program, followed by a master's thesis (15 ECTS). The program admits 26 students per year.

The modules are offered at selected German-speaking faculties. As part of the evaluation of national and international faculties, excursions to renowned foreign universities are also organized. Each module also includes a presentation of the specific characteristics of the hosting faculty's curriculum.

The modules are supported by a mentoring program that longitudinally connects the different modules. The mentors are former MME graduates and provide individual mentoring to current students. Additionally, peer mentoring allows students to exchange advice and experiences among themselves.

A key component of the curriculum is the independent development, implementation, and evaluation of a project at the students’ home institutions. This project is completed with a detailed written report. The master's thesis, which is developed as an educational research project, is presented during a research colloquium or similar event. Students receive professional supervision during the thesis development.

International topics are integrated into the program in various ways. Writing the master's thesis in cooperation with a foreign faculty is encouraged. Consultations on the master's thesis, including international research projects, begin with the first module.

The primary language of instruction is German, though English is also used for modules held at foreign faculties. Instructors are drawn from both German and renowned international faculties, each with expertise in medical education. Each module is conducted by a team of three instructors: one from the host university and one or two from other faculties, fostering interfaculty exchange and ensuring content is integrated across the modules.

The MME program is centrally organized by the MME Secretariat in Heidelberg.
