Module I

Curriculum Development

Kloster Frauenwörth, Frauenchiemsee

This module provides participants with a conceptual foundation for structured curriculum development based on Kern’s six-step model. Participants work in groups to go through an exemplary curricular development cycle on a self-chosen topic, simulating a real-world process similar to what might occur at their own institutions. This approach ensures a high level of applicability to their own work environments. Throughout the module, participants iteratively reflect on the implementation possibilities of their curricular project and their role within their home institutions. They identify opportunities, challenges, and anticipated resistance, working towards faculty development as well. The core principle of the module is "Constructive Alignment," focusing on aligning the various stages of curriculum development—from problem definition and needs analysis to evaluation.
